During World War II, he was interned with the rest of his family in Amache, CO. Upon returning to Sebastopol after the war, he attended and graduated from Analy High School. Mukaida was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. After his tour of duty, he went to work for Cal-Wood Doors in Rohnert Park, where he worked for 40 years, retiring in 1992. During his retirement years, he puttered in the yard, enjoyed walking to the library and going to the Healdsburg Farmers Market with Jean. He also liked watching Giants baseball, 49er's football and never missed an offer to go to the River Rock Casino.
